Is business slower than you expected post strike in 2024?

After we decided the website needed a revamp, which we have now completed, we wanted to try and make an effort to blog a little more. Maybe help drive some traffic.

So, do you think the film business is a little slow compared to years past? What is your current experience?

We have some theories, but we could be way off base. Post pandemic, the film business was on fire. It was an unprecedented time in the industry. But if we think back pre-pandemic, 2017, 2018, 2019; most of us would just now be starting our first gig of the year after Presidents' Day. Productions almost always wanted to get those first two union paid holidays behind them before beginning prep. So depending on your role you may not have even started yet by this point in the year. Couple that with what we think is a glut of shows post pandemic and with the changing landscape due to the 2023 strikes. Plus the looming potential strikes this year from IATSE and IBT; it's the perfect storm for it to seem a bit slow.

We would however love to hear your take on what's happening in your world and in your departments thus far in 2024. We are always open to hearing other perspectives and ideas. Until next time.
